Films
In Kissy, Freetown, Sierra Leone, safety can be a big issue, especially at night and especially for women.

When night fell in Kissy, Sierra Leone, many people stayed off the streets due to the high risk of robbery or worse. As a result, the community would lock down, shops would close, and the streets would empty. This film follows an innovative story where the women of Valiant Sisters and a young electrician’s ideas helped restore safety.

Their initiative involved turning old TVs into lights, which now illuminate the streets of Kissy at night, keeping the community safe and allowing for the shops to stay open longer, children to do their homework in the evenings. All with a few clever changes to the TVs that otherwise would have ended in the trash and the dedication of the community to come together and raise money for the electricity.
