In a world where stories often feel distant and disconnected, HUMANS emerged from a simple belief: that we connect through what we share, not what separates us. For six months, we traversed 15,000 kilometers from Cape Town to Cairo, choosing public transport not just as a means of travel, but as a way to remain close to the heartbeat of daily life. Every shared taxi, every crowded bus became a classroom for human connection.
Armed with ten questions about life, love, and dreams, we sought to understand the quiet dignity of human experience across vastly different cultural contexts. These conversations, initially between strangers, evolved into profound exchanges about universal human truths. Each story became a thread in a larger tapestry, weaving together individual narratives that transcend borders and challenge our preconceptions about connection.
The journey demanded vulnerability – often finding ourselves needing help from locals, creating natural moments of authentic exchange. Through intimate interviews, documentary photography, and video portraits, we captured not just stories, but the delicate interplay between individual experience and our collective humanity.
Now, as HUMANS prepares for its online rebirth in 2025, we’re reminded that every conversation, every portrait, every shared moment speaks to something larger than ourselves – the enduring power of human connection in an increasingly fragmented world.
From crowded minibuses to bicycles, motor bikes, backs of pickup trucks and shared taxis, this six-month expedition created natural moments of connection.
As HUMANS returns to the digital realm in 2025, it reaffirms a simple truth: each interview, photograph, and shared experience illuminates our common humanity, creating bridges of understanding in our often-divided world.
